Suspected shooter named as Vance Boelter in ‘politically motivated’ assassination of Minnesota lawmaker Melissa Hortman: Latest

Authorities are searching for Vance Boelter, 57, as he is suspected of shooting the Minnesota lawmakers and their spouses, AP sources say.

Despite requests from state police and Gov. Tim Walz, the “No Kings” rally in Minnesota will march as planned Saturday, event organizers said.

In a video shared to X just before 1 p.m. EST, a rally organizer reassured attendees that the march would still go on despite last-minute changes and evolving circumstances.

They urged participants to bring love and joy, support one another, and give space while waiting for the program to begin in about 10–15 minutes.

“No Kings” rallies are taking place nationwide on Saturday to protest against President Donald Trump’s birthday military parade in DC, and to oppose perceived authoritarianism and government overreach.

Inside the suspect’s legit-looking police SUV, officials found a manifesto naming multiple lawmakers and other officials.

The male suspect allegedly arrived at both lawmakers’ homes in a real-looking police SUV with the emergency lights on.

He also wore a realistic badge.

“There is no question that if they were in this room, you would assume that they are a police officer,” BPPD Chief Mark Bruley said Saturday in a press conference.

A Minnesota lawmaker and her husband were killed, and a second is recovering from surgery, after a man posing as a cop targeted them in a “politically motivated” shooting overnight Saturday.
