Attorney General Pam Bondi has denied having any knowledge of a reported FBI probe into claims that former FBI Director James Comey ordered a “honeypot” investigation into President Donald Trump a decade ago.

Why It Matters
On Tuesday, The Washington Times reported that the FBI was investigating a whistleblower’s claim that Comey, whom the president fired in 2017, had ordered an “off the books” investigation targeting Trump’s 2016 campaign.
In a disclosure to the House Judiciary Committee last year, the whistleblower alleged that two female undercover agents infiltrated Trump’s campaign and were directed to act as “honeypots” while traveling with Trump and campaign staff, the newspaper reported. The FBI, which is now led by Trump appointee Kash Patel, is looking for the agents involved, the outlet said.

During an appearance on Fox News’ Jesse Watters Primetime on Wednesday, Bondi denied knowing about the reported investigation.
“We’re hearing reports that there was an investigation opened into James Comey, who may have thrown honeypots at Donald Trump back in the 2015, 2016 years. Is that true?” Watters asked.
Bondi said: “Jesse, I don’t know anything about what you’re saying about James Comey right now. Don’t know anything about that.”

Michael Flynn, a retired Army general and Trump’s former national security adviser, said on The Alex Jones Show this week: “The guns are coming out metaphorically, right? And Comey is going to be one of the first targets.”
James Comey said in an MSNBC interview in May: “Trump is coming for those institutions [the Justice Department and the FBI]. He knows their power, and I think he has regrets that he didn’t work hard enough to corrupt them last time. So he’s coming for them, and that’s a danger for all Americans. He’s going to put people in positions in those organizations … who will want to do his will, and that should worry every American.”
