Kamala Harris to Release Presidential Campaign Memoir ‘107 Days’: When to Get It

Former Vice President Kamala Harris is set to publish a memoir this fall, offering a candid account of her groundbreaking but brief presidential campaign.

“In just 107 days, I traveled the country, fought for our future, and made history with the shortest presidential campaign in modern times,” Harris said in a video announcement Thursday.

“Since leaving office, I’ve spent time reflecting on that journey,” Harris said. “This book is my honest and behind-the-scenes account—what I saw, what I learned, and what I believe it will take to move forward.”

Newsweek reached out to Harris’ team via email on Thursday for further comment.

Why It Matters

Harris emerged as the Democratic candidate to run against Donald Trump in 2024 after then-President Joe Biden announced he would withdraw from the race amid concerns over his health and fitness to serve a second term following a disastrous debate.

This marked her second unsuccessful bid for president following her 2020 run, which ultimately positioned her to join Biden as vice president on his ticket.

Harris also previously released the book The Truths We Hold: An American Journey in 2019 ahead of her first presidential bid.

What To Know

Simon & Schuster described 107 Days as “a page-turning account” filled with “surprising and revealing insights.”

CEO Jonathan Karp praised Harris as “a singular American leader,” adding that the book “captures the drama of running for president better than just about anything I’ve read. It’s one of the best works of political nonfiction we’ve ever published.”

While Karp declined to specify whether Harris addresses Biden’s mental fitness, he confirmed that she covers “everything we would want her to address.”

Harris touted the book as a “behind-the-scenes account” that has “value in sharing what I saw, what I learned, and what it will take to move forward.”

“In writing this book, one truth kept coming back to me—sometimes the fight takes a while. But I remain full of hope, and I remain clear eyed. I will never stop fighting to make our country reflect the very best of its ideals, always on behalf of the people,” Harris said in her announcement.

Financial terms for the book were not disclosed.

Kamala Harris’ New Book: When Will It Be Released?

107 Days—a reference to the length of her run—will be released by Simon & Schuster on September 23.

The memoir marks Harris’ first book since leaving office and follows her historic bid to become the first woman and first woman of color elected president.

She ultimately led the Democratic ticket after President Joe Biden exited the race last July, following a widely criticized debate performance. Harris lost the November election to Republican nominee Donald Trump.

Will Kamala Harris Run for President in 2028?

Harris has seemingly left the door open to a third presidential campaign after announcing she will not enter the 2026 California gubernatorial race.

She announced her decision on Wednesday after deliberating on “the best way…to continue fighting for the American people and advancing the values and ideals I hold dear.”

“For now, my leadership-and public service- will not be in elected office,” Harris added. “I look forward to getting back out and listening to the American people, helping elect Democrats across the nation who will fight fearlessly, and sharing more details in the months ahead about my own plans.”

Early polling has indicated Harris has strong support among voters despite her loss to Trump in 2024. However, she faces strong competition from former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg and New York Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, among others.

California Governor Gavin Newsom and Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro also feature prominently among possible nominees for 2028.

Will Kamala Harris Do a Book Tour?

Harris has not yet made clear if she will conduct a book tour to support the memoir’s release, but she has booked an appearance on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, according to Variety, and she may reveal further details about her plans.

Should she hold a book tour, it would happen in the fall following the memoir’s release.
